Roo Burger

This dish was prepared for the subreddit, /r/52weeksofcooking, where the theme was “Native Australian”. Ever since I was in Australia, I have been craving Kangaroo and this was my excuse to buy it. So worth it. This was absolutely juicy and delicious.

Ingredients

1 lb Ground Kangaroo meat
1 Egg
1/2 Cup Breadcrumbs
3/4 Tablespoon Garlic , minced
1/2 Onion , diced  
1/8 Cup Worcestershire Sauce
1/8 Cup Chili Sauce
to taste Hot Sauce
1 teaspoon Dried Thyme
1/2 teaspoon Dried Oregano
to taste Ground Black Pepper
1/2 Large Carrot , peeled and grated
1/2 Red Onion , sliced
4 Burger Buns

Steps

  1. Mix all ingredients except purple onion in a large bowl.
  2. Form into 4 patties.
  3. Heat up BBQ and slice red onion.
  4. Cook onion on medium flame for 6 minutes for first side and 5 for the other side.
  5. Cook until medium or medium rare (about 4 minutes for the first side and 3 minutes for the second).
  6. Place cooked patties and onions on buns and top with any condiments if desired.
