Braaaains – Red Velvet Rice Krispy Treats

Halloween is here so I decided to make some delicious braaains. The first thing I thought of when doing this recipe was the Hannibal Lector series where he feeds the guy his own brains. And then of course zombies. Mmmmm delicious brains.

Halloween is here so I decided to make some delicious braaains. The first thing I thought of when doing this recipe was the Hannibal Lector series where he feeds the guy his own brains. And then of course zombies. Mmmmm delicious brains.

Summary

  • Course: dessert
  • Cooking Time: 15 mins

Ingredients

Brains
1/4 Cup Butter
1 1/2 Cups Mini Marshmallows
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
2 – 3 Drops Red Food Colouring
1/2 Cup Red Velvet Cake Mix
3 1/2 Cups Rice Krispies Cereal
Grenadine Sryup
3/4 Cup Sugar
1/6 Cup Water
1/8 Cup Grenadine

Steps

  1. Melt the butter in a pot over low heat.
  2. Add the mini marshmallows and stir until melted and well combined.
  3. Cook for 2 minutes longer. Keep stirring to prevent scorching. Remove from heat.
  4. Add vanilla extract and red food colouring and mix well.
  5. Gradually stir in the red velvet cake mix. If the mixture ends up too thick, add a bit more melted butter.
  6. Start with 3 cups of Rice Krispies and stir until combined. Add only as much as needed.
  7. Spray hands with cooking spray and remove the mixture from the pot on top a sheet of parchment or wax paper.
  8. Shape into desired shape.
  9. Now either cover with grenadine and corn syrup or make your own:
  10. Combine sugar and water in a pot and bring to a slight boil.
  11. Reduce the heat to low, simmer, and add the grenadine.
  12. Keep simmering over low heat until the mixture gets thick and syrupy (about 4 minutes).
  13. Top the rice krispy treat with the grenadine syrup.

The amount of grenadine was a guess since I just added enough to make it blood coloured.
